North Wind rumbled gently, sitting down closer to the girl.
The girl glanced up at the unexpected man, surprised, then
shrugged a shoulder and moved away.
‘Nothing to worry about’, the man said. ‘ Crying
wouldn’t do any good. Your black-haired is gonna be back,
just call him.’
The girl turned to him, amazed, her violet eyes opened
wide, her lips parted. ‘How do you know? I mean my black-
haired…’ she whispered, astonished.
‘I know loads of things. You’re trying to run away, but
you can never run away from yourself. Would you like my
help?’
‘Are you a magician?’ The girl sounded incredulous.
‘ Could well be. But first what’s your name?’’
‘Snezhana.’ The girl smiled to show dimples.’
‘Sounds lovely, I like such wintry names’, he said,’ So,
what’s happened, my fair?’
‘Tomasso and I …we quarreled and he left for Italy.’ The
girl sobbed.
‘Italy… It’s too warm,’ the man replied sadly. ‘ But he’s
going to be back, isn’t he?’
‘No,’ Snezhana burst out crying.’ He’s gone for ever; I
hurt him, it was accidental, but he is too proud, he wouldn’t
get over it.’
‘Hmm,’ the North Wind pronounced musingly while
lighting his pipe. ‘Where does he live there, in his Italy?’
‘I have no idea. He isn’t available on the phone. I sent
him a letter, but it returned - no addressee there.’ Tears
were running and running down the girl’s cheeks.
