Snezhik and Anastasia
It is snowing, the streets are empty. No one to be
seen, cars only dash to and fro. From time to time they
halt, cram the streets, wink with headlights. The city
of cars. However, you may hang about the snowy city,
dreaming, or catching snowflakes with your lips, or
singing songs – nobody is going to bother you.
‘Hey, there! Walking? May I join you?’ a soft and
insinuating voice said into my ear. Startled, I sprang
aside to happily avoid hitting a parked car, and then I
saw him – Snezhik wearing the Cheshire cat’s grin.
‘ Oh, Snezhik, didn’t I ask you to stop alarming me?
What if I die of a heart attack?’ I stormed.
Snezhik got serious and frowned, looking into my
face with his icy blue eyes. ‘You people are hard to pre-
dict, one has to be ready for anything with you. As for
your ‘to die or not to die,’ make sure: no problem with-
in the next decade. Stop living in a dream world!’
At this Snezhik threw a few snowflakes into my face
and grinned. I pursed my lips , displeased, and stared
at my reflection in the tinted windows of a parked car.
‘Looks like you don’t enjoy it’, Snezhik said.
‘Well, I wish I were a bit younger, some –teen years’,
I sighed. ‘ But on the whole not bad anyway’.
‘That’s the point. I’m with you here, no idea of how
I could live, unable to transform my body. It would be
so dull.’
