Owl, Boreal owl

            (Aegolius funereus)





                        One of the smallest representatives of birds from the entire owl family. Weight
                     can reach a maximum of 200 g. Body length ranges from 21 to 27 cm. The color
                     of the plumage is chestnut with light spots. The lower part of the body of the owl is
                     predominantly light with small brown and gray spots.
                        Owls feed on small rodents.
                        The nesting area is island Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands. On Sakhalin, the owl is
                     found throughout the territory, but extremely unevenly. In the nesting season, birds
                     were  recorded  on  the  Krillon  Peninsula  and  the Tonino-Anivsky  Peninsula,  near
                     Lake Ainskoye, the cities of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Aleksandrovsk, Dolinsk, on the
                     shores of Lunsky, Nabilsky and Terpeniya bays. Breeds on island Kunashir, South
                     Kuril Islands. Was met on island. Moneron. The general distribution is Europe, Asia,
                     America.
