Sparrow red


            (Passer rutilans)




                                   Looks like a field sparrow. In the male, the throat and stripe from beak
                                to eye are black, the top of the head, back and upper tail are brownish
                                red with blackish streaks, the sides of the head are white, the chest and
                                abdomen are grayish white, the wings and tail are brown. The female and
                                juveniles do not have black and red flowers, their dorsal side is brownish,
                                above the eye there is a light stripe.
                                   It feeds on insects and seeds of herbaceous plants.
                                   It inhabits South and East Asia from the Himalayas and southeastern
                                Tibet east to the coast of the East China and South China Seas, North to
                                the Qinling Ridge and the Yangtze Estuary, Korean Peninsula, Japanese
                                Islands,  Taiwan,  Sakhalin  and  the  southern  part  of  the  Kuril  Islands.
                                Breeds irregularly on the mainland coast of the Khabarovsk and Primorsk
                                Territories. In the Sakhalin Region, it is sporadically distributed practically
                                throughout the entire territory of Sakhalin, possibly only with the exception
                                of the extreme north of the island; in the South Kuril Islands, it nests on
                                Kunashir, Iturup and Shikotan; it was also noted on the island of Ushishir.
