Starling chestnut-cheeked
(Sturnia philippensis)
It is very similar to the small starling, but the male has bright rusty-brown spots
on the sides of the head behind the eye, sometimes connected by a strip bordering
the throat.
Outwardly, small, red-cheeked and silky starlings are very similar, because are
close relatives. It is clear from the name that it is easy to distinguish a red-faced
from a small one by the color of the cheeks.
It feeds mainly on insects, in autumn - on berries. Distributed in the southeast
of the Russian Far East, in Japan, in the south of the Korean Peninsula. In the
Sakhalin region, inhabits the south of the island of Sakhalin, island Moneron,
South Kuril Islands.
