             Lady’s slipper large-flowered


             (Cypripedium macranthon Sw.)









               Perennial  herb  25–50  cm  tall,  with  a  strong  short  root  and  straight  stem  with
            glandular pubescence. Leaves, 3-5, alternate, wide-elliptic leaf blades, whole, entire,
            10–18 cm long and 5–10 cm wide. The flower is zygomorphic, usually single, large,
            dark pink or purple. There are 6 perianth segments, the lower two of them are fused,
            but bifurcated at the end, the upper one noticeably hangs over a strongly swollen,
            shoe-shaped lip, the length of which is 5–7 cm.
               In  the  Sakhalin  Region,  it  grows  in  the  middle  and  southern  parts  of    Sakhalin
            Island (in all administrative regions, except for Okhinsky and Nogliksky), on Moneron
            Island, as well as on the Kuril Islands: Shumshu, Makanrushi, Ketoy, Simushir, Brother
            Chirpoev, Urup, Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan. In Russia it also grows in the south, south-
            west and south-east of the European part, in the south of the Urals, in Siberia and in the
            Far East. Outside the Russian Federation — in Mongolia, China, Japan and the Korean
            Peninsula.
