Lady’s slipper shanxiense
(Cypripedium shanxiense S. C. Chen)
The plant is 30–40 cm tall, with a shortened
branched rhizome and numerous hard roots, and a
straight stem, bearing 3–5 alternate, spirally arranged,
simple, broadly elliptical leaves in the middle part,
up to 18 cm long and up to 10 cm wide. The lip is
greenish brown or yellowish brown, small, 1.5–2 cm
long and 0.8–2 cm wide. The boll is up to 2 cm long
and 1 cm wide.
A species that has a significantly large common
area, but is located within the Sakhalin region on the
border of distribution. Recorded at several points
in the middle of Sakhalin Island (Smirnykhovsky
and Makarovsky Districts). In the Far East of the
Russian Federation, it is found in the southeast of
the Chita region, the southwest of the Amur region,
the south and east of the Khabarovsk Territory and
in the Primorsky Territory. Outside of the Russian
Federation, it grows in China, in the north of the
Korean Peninsula and in Japan (Hokkaido Island).
Lady’s slipper Spotted
(Cypripedium guttatum Sw.)
The plant is 15–30 cm tall, with a thin creeping
rhizome. The stem is straight, the leaves are simple,
oval-elliptical, 7–10 cm long, 3–6 cm wide. The
zygomorphic flower is always single and small. The
upper perianth is wide-eyed, white, with violet-pink
spots, longer than the lip, the lower leaf is fused
greenish. The lip is 2–2.5 cm long, whitish, with
dark purple spots. The boll is up to 2.5 cm long and
1.3 cm wide.
Grows on the northeastern border of the areal.
In the Sakhalin Region, it is sporadically found in
the middle part of Sakhalin Island (Poronaysky,
Smirnykhovsky and Uglegorsky Districts). On the
territory of Russia it is also noted in the European
part, in the south of Siberia and in the Far East.
Outside of the Russian Federation it grows in
Mongolia, China, on the Korean Peninsula.
