Tit varied
(Parus varius)
Body length — 12–14 cm, weight — 16–18 g. Wing length in
adults reaches about 74–78 mm. The tail is somewhat shorter than
that of the great tit. The back, wings and tail of the yew tits are painted
in gray-blue tones; the head and throat are black, the forehead and
cheeks have a creamy yellow plumage, the neck and lower part of the
body are brownish-red.
They feed mainly on insects. In the autumn, food of plant origin
predominates in the diet.
Distributed in Northeast China — a small area bordering the Korean
Peninsula in the north, on the Korean Peninsula, in Taiwan, on all the
Japanese islands north of Taiwan. In the South Kuril Islands, it lives
in Kunashir, Iturup and Shikotan, South Kuril region. Recorded in the
southern part of Sakhalin Island.
