Eagle, White-tailed Eagle
(Haliaeetus albicilla)
The body length of the male is 80 cm, of the female — 95 cm, the
wingspan is 182–239 cm. The general color is brown, grayish-brown
when worn, the shades vary. The underside of the body is slightly lighter
than the top. The head and neck are especially light, even whitish or off-
buff-white in a worn feather. The tail is tapered, pure white. Eyes, beak
and paws are yellow.
The basis of the diet is fish. An essential role in nutrition is played by
seabirds and waterfowl. The diet is supplemented by mammals, as well as
stranded marine invertebrates and carrion.
To the east, the area extends to Anadyr, the Koryak Upland, Kamchatka,
island Sakhalin, Kuril ridge, northeastern China and northern Japan.
Distributed throughout the territory of about. Sakhalin, nests on the large
islands of the Kuril ridge. During the migration period, it visits island
Moneron, island Tyuleniy, Northern and Middle Kuriles.
On Sakhalin, the species is more common in the central and southern
regions. In the north, nests of white-tailed eagles are known in the bay
Baikal, in the lower reaches of the Bolshaya Uanga, Piltun, Paromay,
Mukhto rivers; in the middle reaches of the Val, Askasai rivers; in the lower
and middle reaches of the river Dagi, Tym, Imchin; rivers Vazi, Nabil,
Orkuni; on the Lunsky Bay.
