The maximum length
of reaching 53 cm, the
wingspan is 96 cm, the
length of one wing is
25 cm, the weight of
the bird is 400 g. The
main color of this heron
is white, only there
are decorations on the
head and neck from ocher-yellow feathers. This outfit becomes even more festive during the
mating season. A beautiful crest of elongated orange-gold-colored feathers appears on the
bird’s head. Separate strongly fluffed bright feathers appear on the back.
They feed on fish, frogs, aquatic and terrestrial insects.
Regularly vagrant during the period of spring migrations and summer migrations. It was
recorded in the southern and central regions of island Sakhalin and the South Kuril Islands
(Kunashir and Shikotan). General distribution - South Europe, Africa, South, East and South-
East Asia, Australia. The nearest nesting area is South Primorye.
