Traditionally, pigeons are considered a symbol of peace,
but in Japan they are associated with war. An old Japanese

legend celebrates saving the life of the great commander
Yoritomo, a warrior from Japanese mythology who lived in
                          the 12th century.
He raised a rebellion and during the battle was in the
balance of death. When he was hiding from his pursuers
in the hollow of a tree, the enemy aimed his bow straight

inward. But two pigeons suddenly flew out from there. The
enemy, convinced that no one else was there, left. The dove
became the savior of Yoritomo and everyone else. He was
revered as a messenger from God.
