               A  plant  with  narrow-cylindrical  tubers  up  to
            10  cm  long  and  up  to  8  mm  thick  and  a  strong
            fleshy  dense  leafy  stem  30–60  cm  high.  Leaves
            are rounded or broadly coelliptic, obtuse, alternate,
            6–15 cm long and 3–9 cm wide, wavy along the
            edge.  The  flowers  are  zygomorphic  pink-violet
            (rarely white), collected in a dense raceme up to 20
            cm long and 4 cm wide.
               Sporadically found on Sakhalin Island (environs
            of  Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk  and  in  all  administrative
            regions,  except  for  Okhinsky,  Nogliksky  and
            Tymovsky),  Moneron  Island,  as  well  as  on  the
            Kuril  Islands:  Shumshu,  Paramushir  ,  Simushir,
            Ketoy,  Urup,  Iturup,  Kunashir,  Shikotan.  In  the
            Russian Far East, it is found in the Khabarovsk and
            Kamchatka regions. Outside the Russian Federation
            — in Japan (Hokkaido and Honshu Islands).

                                                                 Up  to  20  cm  high,  with  a  straight  stem
                                                              and oblong-ovate tubers. Leaves are simple,
                                                              whole, 2 in number, the lower one is up to 9 cm
                                                              long, narrow-ovate, whole-edged, the upper
                                                              one is smaller. The flowers are zygomorphic,
                                                              yellowish-white, in a loose raceme up to 6 cm
                                                              long.
                                                                 In Russia, it grows on the northern border
                                                              of  its  range  only  on  the  Kuril  Islands:
                                                              Chirpoy, Brother Chirpoev, Urup and Iturup,
                                                              indicated for Shikotan. Outside the Russian
                                                              Federation — in Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu in
                                                              the mountains).
