Pulsatilla tatewakii
(Pulsatilla tatewakii Kudo)
Perennial herb up to 25 cm high. Leaves rosette, 5–7 cm long, 7–10
cm wide, broad-heart-shaped. The segments of the segments are oblong,
shallowly incised, with small sparse teeth along the edge. The flowers
are drooping, dark purple, about 4 cm in diameter, covered with reddish
pubescence on the outside.
Endemic to Sakhalin. Occurs sporadically throughout the island from
the Schmidt Peninsula to the ridge Zhdanko (in all administrative districts,
except for Korsakovsky, Anivsky, Kholmsky and Nevelsky).
Once the beauty went to collect flowers. Her bouquet became more and
more magnificent, and she went further and further into the forest. The girl
didn’t know that it was a Forest Spirit luring her. She found herself in a remote
clearing surrounded by tall pines. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a handsome man
appeared, the lord of the forest. He invited her to live with him forever and ever.
But the beauty refused. The young man immediately turned into an old Forest
Spirit and jumped to the girl, who hit him with all her might. She rushed to run,
but an unknown force kept her in place. It was the witchcraft of the woodsman,
who let the beauty get tired. Unbeknownst to herself, the girl lowered her arms,
her legs ceased to obey, and she fell to the ground, loaded into sleep. The beauty
melted right there and then, and after a moment it completely disappeared into
the air. And instead of her, a flower of wondrous beauty and charm remained
on the earth.
