Goose brant (brent)
(Branta bernicla nigricans)
The body length is on average 61 cm, the wingspan is 115 cm. The color
of the plumage is mainly black-brown, the undertail and the transverse stripe
on the neck are white.
Brant goose plays a significant role in nutrition.
The nesting part of the range covers the Arctic coast and the islands of
North America and Asia, from the delta of the river Lena to the east to the
Bering Strait. Wintering grounds are located in North America, North China,
on the Korea Peninsula and the Japanese Islands, on the Atlantic coast of
France, in England, Holland and Germany. During the period of seasonal
migrations, a goose was recorded on the territory of the Sakhalin Region.
During the spring migration, solitary birds are found in the south of Sakhalin
Island in May — June. Autumn migration on Sakhalin Island takes place
from the second half of September to October.
