Goose Canada


            (Branta canadensis leucopareia)






















































                                 A small goose with a body length of 68 cm and a wingspan of up to 120 cm.
                              The head and neck are black, on the cheeks are white spots. The upper body
                              is dark brown with slightly lightened edges of feathers, the chest and belly
                              are somewhat lighter, the undertail is white. Flight feathers are dark brown,
                              tail feathers are black. Legs are black, beak is dark, short. A characteristic
                              feature of the color of the Aleutian subspecies is a bright white neck ring.
                                 The basis of food in summer habitats and on migrations is sedges, fescue,
                              plantain and some other plants, in winter in the fields — barley and corn.
                                 They are endemic to the Aleutian, Commander and Kuril Islands. Recorded
                              in the post-nesting and winter time on the island Onekotan.
