Golden eagle
The average body length of an adult bird is 85 cm, the wingspan is 180–
240 cm, the weight varies between 2.84–6 kg for males and 3.8–6.7 kg for
females. The beak is high, curved, laterally flattened. The wings are long
and wide, slightly tapering towards the base. The tail is long, rounded; in
flight it unfolds like a fan. The paws of golden eagles are very large and
almost completely covered with feathers. The plumage of an adult bird
has a black-brown color, often with a golden tint on the back of the head
and neck.
Food preferences are medium-sized birds and mammals up to the size
of a hare, as well as dead salmon on spawning rivers.
In the Sakhalin region, it nests on the Schmidt Peninsula. During the
periods of summer wanderings, seasonal migrations and in winter, golden
eagles were encountered on the island. Sakhalin and the South Kuril
Islands, as well as on the island Polonsky of the Small Kuril Ridge. Thus,
the species breeds in the Okha region, and is found in all regions of the
region, except for the Severo-Kuril region. General distribution: Eurasia,
North America, North Africa.
